FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What does Coding Academy teach?

Coding Academy's Level 1 - Block Coding Course is based on the Code.org curriculum. We will mainly focus on teaching the kids how to code graphically. Level 1 moves quick, but slow enough to ensure that all the students comprehend the lessons. However, Coding Academy's Level 2 - Python Course will teach the kids the general use of coding with Python. This course is more advanced and will move much quicker.

Do students need to have any prior knowledge of coding?

For our Level 1 - Block Coding Course, students do not require any experience/knowledge in coding. Coding Academy will start teaching from the basic building blocks of coding and will further advance after each lesson. However, for our Level 2 - Python Course, we expect them to be knowledgeable in block coding to provide a foundation to teach them another programming language.

How long will each meeting last?

Each meeting will start at 4:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. on Thursdays, and Coding Academy classes will take place over the whole school year.

Do students need to come prepared with materials?

Yes! Students are expected to arrive with their school-issued Chromebook (or a personal laptop) and their charger. There will not be extra Chromebooks or chargers.

Where and what room will Coding Academy take place in?

Coding Academy will teach in various rooms at Bob Jones High School, which are all located upstairs. When you enter the side entrance, all classrooms will be located in that hall.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Where should I drop off and pick up my child?

Parents must walk their child to their classrooms, and pick them up at their classrooms as well. Students and parents are expected to enter through the side entrance (left to the office) located near the guard shack.

Our Level 1 - Block Coding Course will give students an introduction to coding through the use of block coding. This course is recommended to 3rd and 4th graders with no coding experience. Our Level 2 - Python Course is significantly more advanced and requires advanced experience in block coding. This course is only open to students who have completed Level 1 or are 5th graders who have experience in block coding.
